The Farnese Hercules is a Roman marble copy from the early 3rd century, by the Athenian sculptor Glicone, based on the original bronze work by Lysippos of the 4th century BC. This sculpture was discovered in 1546 at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome and immediately became part of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese’s collection of classical sculptures, son of Pope Paul III. The original is housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
