Description
Elegant matching pair of antique Dutch silver miniature vases, made by the renowned Dutch silversmith J.M. van Kempen & Zonen, Voorschoten.
The vases have a particularly graceful design, with a broad spreading foot, a slender trumpet-shaped stem and a beautiful three-lobed floral rim finished with a fine beaded border. A spherical knop connects the stem to the base.
Both vases bear several Dutch silver hallmarks, including the maker’s mark attributed to J.M. van Kempen & Zonen, together with the Dutch lion hallmark, Minerva assay mark and date mark. The hallmarks place the pieces in the period in which J.M. van Kempen & Zonen was active under this maker’s mark.
The elegant organic shape and floral character are typical of decorative silver from around the turn of the 20th century.
