The bronze Nansen Committee famine relief medal, designed by L. Zijl Van der Hoef and signed by L. Zijl/Van Der Hoef, manufactured in 1922 in the Netherlands, with approximate dimensions of 4 cm by 4 cm and a thickness of 4 mm, in excellent condition.

Medal of the Nansen Committee for Famine
The support medal of the Netherlands Nansen Committee is a historic bronze commemorative medal from 1923, issued to raise funds for the victims of the devastating famine in Russia.
The medal is a collaborative artwork by two well-known Dutch artists and has a diameter of about 41 mm.
Obverse (designed by Lambertus Zijl): Shows a tragic and piercing image of an emaciated, seated mother beside her starving (or dead) child. The inscription reads: NEDERL. NANSEN-COMITE.
Reverse (designed by Chris van der Hoef): Shows two clasped, folded hands surrounded by thorny branches. This symbolizes the urgently needed relief. The inscription reads: HELPT ONS TOT DEN KOMENDEN OOGST IN ONZEN STRIJD TEGEN DEN HONGERSNOOD.
