Upsala-Ekeby - Ester Wallin - Wall plate - Ceramic

Ester Wallin for Upsala-Ekeby – vintage ceramic owl plaque – model 0139 E – circa 1970

Five owls, one irresistible eye-catcher! This vintage wall plaque by Ester Wallin for the Swedish pottery factory Upsala-Ekeby wonderfully combines playful animal figures with Scandinavian design.

The five stylized owls stand in a lively, ascending composition. Their large round eyes, pointed heads, and decorative feather patterns give each bird its own character. The pronounced relief creates a beautiful play of light and shadow.

The gray-brown background subtly contrasts with the darker, glossy owls. The elongated shape with rounded corners makes the whole a particularly decorative wall object.

Ester Wallin designed a series of ceramic wall plaques with animal and plant motifs for Upsala-Ekeby. This owl design, model 0139, is documented as a design from 1970. On the back are the impressed marks ‘UE’, ‘SWEDEN’, ‘0139 E’ and the designer’s monogram.

A charming collectible for lovers of Swedish ceramics, vintage wall decor, and of course, owls.
