Table - Onyx, Bronze - Italy, mid-20th century

Splendid living-room coffee table in green onyx and bronze, a classic example of high Italian craftsmanship from the mid-20th century. Made in precious natural green onyx with geometric inlay and perimeter banding, the natural veins of the onyx vary from jade-green to cream and brown. The base is cast bronze, richly chased with relief decorations, scroll motifs and classical cabriole legs. The design echoes the ornamental forms of European classicism, mixing elements in the styles of Louis XV, Baroque, and Chippendale influences. Tables of this workmanship and with this specific material combination were central, highly loved in the salons of Italian and French aristocratic homes of the era. One-of-a-kind piece, completely original, in good condition.
