Description from the seller
Luc Choquer – Planète France – Contrejour – 1989 -
Original edition - First edition
Planète France constitutes one of the foundational works of Luc Choquer’s career and a singular testimony on France in the late 1980s.
An important photographic book by Luc Choquer, published by Contrejour in 1989, with a text by Didier Daeninckx.
Through his color photographs, Choquer observes a popular, everyday France, and sometimes offbeat: beaches, families, leisure, celebrations, interiors, streets and ordinary scenes. His gaze, at once documentary, direct and tinged with humor, composes a true social portrait of the country.
The book is today particularly representative of the renewal of French documentary photography in the 1980s. Claude Nori described Planète France as a first contemporary portrait of France and its inhabitants, contributing to the renewal of French social photography.
The images, often frontal and very colorful, possess that immediately recognizable aesthetic which would later become Luc Choquer’s reputation, a few years later he would be awarded the Niépce Prize.
