Description from the seller
Klavdij Sluban – Transsibériades – Actes Sud – 2009 – Original edition – Like new
Published on the occasion of the year when Klavdij Sluban received the European Publishers Award for Photography 2009, the work is today sold out at the publisher.
A very beautiful work by Klavdij Sluban, published by Actes Sud in 2009, devoted to one of the main axes of his photographic work: the territories crossed by the Trans-Siberian, and more broadly, the spaces of Eastern Europe and Asian Europe.
Through a sequence of black-and-white photographs, Sluban builds a deeply personal vision of travel. Here, no spectacular or easy picturesque moments: train stations, cities, snowy landscapes, interiors, isolated silhouettes and spaces of transition compose a cohesive, silent, and melancholic whole.
The book fully renders Sluban’s visual writing, marked by strong contrasts, diffuse light, rigorous framing, and a constant attention to places of passage, waiting, and isolation. The whole thing has great graphic power and a true unity.
The volume is accompanied by a text by Erri De Luca, which extends this photographic journey with a literary dimension that is particularly apt.
Transsibériades ranks among the important monographs devoted to Klavdij Sluban’s work and fully fits into his project on margins, borders, and the territories of the East.
