Natural rhodonite sphere from Peru, a Peruvian rhodonite collector sphere with black matrix, measuring 122 mm in diameter and weighing 3130 g.
Description from the seller
Large sphere carved from natural rhodonite from Peru, characterized by a rich combination of pink hues, light veins, and dark inclusions of natural matrix. Rhodonite is a manganese silicate known for its colors ranging from pale pink to intense pink, up to rose-red shades. In massive materials it may appear traversed by bands, veins and lighter zones, while the black components are often associated with manganese oxides or residues of the original matrix. The contrast between pink and black is one of the most recognizable features of this mineral. In this sphere, the workmanship highlights a particularly decorative structure: broad coral pink, blush pink and cream areas are crossed by sinuous, layered patterns, interspersed with small dark specks and irregular black concentrations. The large dark zone visible on one side does not represent a defect, but a portion of the natural matrix left embedded in the original block. The polish clearly emphasizes the transition between the pink mass of rhodonite and this darker component, making the piece even more interesting from a mineralogical standpoint. Peru is known for several mineral localities associated with rhodonite, including Uchucchacua, Casapalca, Pachapaqui and Chiurucu. The spherical shape particularly enhances this material, allowing the color and structural variations of the block to be observed from every angle. Each rotation reveals new transitions between pink, cream white, gray and black. A specimen with strong decorative presence, ideal for a collection of worked minerals, a contemporary Wunderkammer, or a natural history–oriented space.
