AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vintage Williams Grand Prix Engineering F1 Jacket – 1980s – Rare Silver & Green – Size 52

Description

Rare vintage Williams Grand Prix Engineering Formula 1 jacket, acquired in the mid-1980s and kept in private possession ever since.

An unusual piece of early Williams F1 memorabilia featuring the historic Williams Grand Prix Engineering name and the classic green and gold “W” emblem.

The jacket has a distinctive metallic silver outer finish with dark green collar, cuffs and waistband. The front features the Williams Grand Prix Engineering logo, while the back carries a large Williams emblem together with a period Formula 1 racing car graphic. Additional Williams lettering appears on the sleeve.

The exact year of manufacture is unknown. The jacket was acquired in the mid-1980s, although it may have been manufactured several years earlier. Its styling, graphics and Williams Grand Prix Engineering branding are consistent with early-period Williams Formula 1 memorabilia.

The precise original purpose of the jacket is also unknown. It is therefore not being represented as a team-issued or pit-crew jacket. It may have been produced as team, promotional, sponsor or supporter apparel.

There is no surviving manufacturer’s or material label that I have been able to find. The only internal label is the original size 52 tag. The outer material appears to be a lightweight synthetic fabric, likely nylon/polyamide, with a metallic finish.

Condition: Good vintage condition with visible age-related wear. The jacket itself remains remarkably well preserved considering its age. The printed graphics and lettering show noticeable fading and wear, particularly the metallic gold and black areas, as clearly shown in the photographs. These have not been restored, repainted or retouched, preserving the jacket in its original vintage condition.

The wear to the graphics is part of the item’s approximately 40-year history and should be considered when bidding.

A particularly interesting and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of Williams Grand Prix Engineering / Formula 1 history, with documented private ownership dating back to at least the mid-1980s.
