Lot of 2 pairs of large antique white linen bed sheets, from a French bourgeois-quality trousseau, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
Superb lot of two pairs of large antique bed sheets, originating from a French bourgeois-quality trousseau, dating presumably to the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th.
Pair No. 1 — Monogram and lace:
Large sheet in fine ivory-white fabric, adorned with an elegant hand-embroidered monogram with intertwined letters, framed by satin-stitch flowers. The upper border features exquisite eyelets (drawn-work) in a scale, with bobbin lace insertions and diamond-shaped openwork medallions. Hand-embroidered festooned border. A work of great finesse, typical of wedding trousseaux of the era.
Pair No. 2 — Floral baskets and birds:
Pair with a particularly sought-after figurative decor: baskets of flowers, ribbons and birds embroidered in openwork Richelieu embroidery, embedded in cartouches framed by eyelets. The lower edge of the sheet is adorned with a wide festooned border with flower motifs cut in embroidery stitch. The workmanship is remarkable for its precision and richness.
