This cosmetic restoration was performed by a professional lacquer specialist. The process involved a meticulous stripping of the original chrome on each component, followed by applying several coats of paint (in homage to the limited edition “Safari”). The finish consists of a high-end baked enamel coating, applied in four thin layers to ensure exceptional durability as well as increased resistance to chipping and peeling.
This meticulous artisanal process ensures long-lasting protection while preventing oxidation and deterioration of the paint. The glossy lacquer finish, emblematic of Leica, is renowned for its complexity and the standards it demands; it gives the instrument a unique and striking aesthetic. With prolonged use, the body will gradually develop a “brassing” effect (exposure of the underlying metal), creating a rich and beautiful patina that embodies the classic charm of a Leica that has seen use.
The camera is in excellent condition and perfectly functional, with an impeccable finish. All components have been tested; the body is in very good condition and the shutter speeds are precise. The rangefinder operates correctly and the shutter curtains are perfectly flat and in excellent condition. The viewfinder has undergone professional service: it is bright and clear, allowing fast and precise focusing thanks to the yellow rangefinder patch.
