Description from the seller
Historical and Artistic Description of the Piece
We present an exceptional high cabinetmaking collection chair, an freestanding piece of great decorative value manufactured by the prestigious firm Ardego during the Art Deco period (circa 1920–1930).
This magnificent specimen stands out as a perfect exercise in a transition of styles, masterfully blending the structural lightness and classical refinement of Chiavari design with the Napoleon III style of the 19th century, and the sophisticated aesthetic codes and polychrome finishes so coveted in the 20s and 30s.
The chair stands out technically for the following attributes of authenticity and preservation:
• Structure and Turning: Built on a noble wooden frame, it features a meticulous and delicate turning in its legs and in the backrest slats that emulates the appearance of bamboo culms, contributing a slender, weightless silhouette and a high technical standard.
• Polychromy and Art Deco Finish: Departing from Victorian-style visible woods, the piece embraces the modernity of the Jazz era with a deep lacquer in reddish and mahogany tones, enriched with subtle gold inlays and artisanal floral decorations on the upper crest. Its legitimate patina shows the natural wear of time, certifying its genuine character.
• Traditional Handcrafted Upholstery: The seat is a work of art in itself. It is crafted with natural rattan lattice woven and hand-sewn, thread by thread, through individual perforations in the lower frame. It is in an optimal condition of tension and preservation, free of breaks or modern interventions that could alter its value.
• Authenticity Mark: The authenticity of the piece is reinforced by the presence of the original ink/stamp factory Ardego seal stamped on the back of the wooden frame, an essential element for collectors that elevates the piece to the category of documented catalog furniture.
