Description from the seller

Silver reliquary pendant – Virgin of Sorrows – Spain, early 19th century

Oval silver reliquary pendant, finely engraved on both faces: a pelican feeding its young, symbol of Christ's sacrifice, and the Mystic Lamb lying on the altar, evoking the Passion.

The reliquary opens on a hinge and preserves under glass an old devotional image representing the Virgin of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa), the heart pierced by the seven swords.

Decoration engraved with foliage and geometric motifs.

Stamps/punches present on the bail, not identified with certainty.

Beautiful patina and age-related wear, notably on the inner engraving.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. They allow one to appreciate its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
