Description from the seller
Large antique Ex-Voto or Votive Heart in raised and pierced silver, with GR monogram and San Francesco medal in gold – 19th Century
Description
Splendid and large devotional votive work from the era (Votive Heart), of refined Italian craftsmanship (central/southern area), dating to the 19th century (with elegant late 18th-century inspired motifs).
The piece is distinguished by the extraordinary richness of the pierced, embossed, and chiseled work by hand on the silver sheet. The central heart is crowned by a radiated brass crown with a cross. At the center of the heart is the classic monogram "GR" (Grazia Ricevuta) in brass, topped by a tiny coronet. On the upper left is applied an interesting gold devotional medal bearing the Latin inscription "S. FRANCISCE DE ASSISIO O.P.N." (Sancte Francisce de Assisio, Ora Pro Nobis), depicting Saint Francis of Assisi in prayer.
The magnificence of the object comes from the majestic diamond-shaped frame: a dense and delicate interlacing of acanthus scrolls, rosette floral motifs, and multiple carved cherub faces (putti). At the top, the original suspension cord in red fabric and gold thread with a tassel is preserved.
Type: Votive Heart / Ex-Voto for wall display
Era: 19th Century
Origin: Italy
Conditions: Good, consistent with age and devotional use. No guarantee for possible loosely attached or missing pieces. It presents its charming original patina of age with natural oxidation in the recessed areas of the carving.
Piece of notable dramatic impact, ideal for collectors of sacred art, devotional objects, and fine antiques.
The photos are an integral part of the description. Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
