Description from the seller

From: Princess Mononoke

This is an authentic, original, one-of-a-kind Japanese production cel set, hand-painted by studio artists and used in the creation of Princess Mononoke, one of Studio Ghibli's most iconic films.

As original production materials, these artworks are entirely unique, with no duplicates in existence.

This multiple cel set features San, captured across a sequence of consecutive frames that show her running through the forest in an action-packed scene of the movie. A custom-made frame and mat have been specially designed to display five of these frames in sequence, allowing the movement to be appreciated as intended.

The set includes a total of six original cels, with five displayed in the frame and one additional cel not currently mounted. The background is a reproduction. Five original douga drawings are also included as extras; however, as they were previously adhered to the cels and later separated, they are in fragile condition and are provided for reference purposes only.

The cels were professionally separated from the douga by a conservation expert. Minor stabilization work was carried out on areas where paint had lifted from the cel surface. Overall, the set remains in good condition and has been carefully preserved.

A Certificate of Registration will be included with your purchase.

The set has been carefully inspected by our specialists, and their details have been registered in the Japanime Art Gallery Online Archive. After purchase, you can access and verify the archive record at any time by searching for the unique registration number shown on the certificate.

This item is presented interleaved with MicroChamber paper placed, an archival material used to protect artwork by reducing harmful acids and paint fumes which damage the cel over time. We are currently the only seller in Japan offering anime cels presented this way.

Please note that this is a vintage production item. Despite careful storage, age-appropriate wear such as light handling marks, minor paint wear, or small imperfections may be present. Buyers are strongly encouraged to examine all images carefully prior to bidding.

Seller's Story

Japanime Art Gallery is a Japan-based art gallery specializing in authentic anime and manga production art and historically significant collectibles. We primarily curate original animation cels, original drawings, and production materials created during the golden era of hand-drawn Japanese animation, from the 1970s to the 1990s. In addition, we carefully select rare posters, official reproduction artworks, reproduction manuscripts, and related materials that represent the history and cultural context of anime and manga. All works offered by Japanime Art Gallery are selected based on our independent curatorial standards, with a strong emphasis on authenticity, historical background, cultural significance, and preservation condition. Even when offering reproduction works, we only handle officially produced, exhibition-related, or limited-distribution items that hold genuine collectable value. Our mission is not simply to sell artworks, but to elevate anime and manga art as a recognized and respected category within the global art market, and to preserve and pass on its cultural value to future generations. We see ourselves as long-term custodians of anime and manga art, responsible for preserving, contextualizing, and introducing these works to the world as cultural and artistic assets.
