[Appearance]
This SANSUI AU-α607 EXTRA features a beautiful all-black exterior with delicate gold-colored lettering and a substantial central volume control.
The glossy upper front panel contrasts attractively with the more subdued matte finish of the lower control section. It is a wonderful example of the thoughtful, understated industrial design found in Japanese audio equipment of the late 1980s.
The large volume knob has a particularly satisfying presence, while the neatly arranged rectangular input buttons and rotary controls give the amplifier a sophisticated, purposeful appearance.
The top ventilation grilles, robust metal cabinet, and gold-colored feet further emphasize the solid construction of this vintage component.
As expected from an amplifier of this age, there are some signs of previous use.
Light scratches, surface marks, fingerprints, and dust are visible on the front panel and top cover. Some marks and minor wear are also present around the cabinet edges and rear connections.
However, the front panel lettering remains generally clear, the main controls appear complete, and the overall exterior retains its attractive vintage appearance.
I particularly appreciate the combination of the glossy black faceplate and warm gold lettering. There is something quietly charming about this design, reminiscent of an era when listening to music meant sitting down, choosing an album, and enjoying every track without rushing.
The amplifier still has that reassuringly substantial presence that makes classic SANSUI equipment so enjoyable to collect.
