AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Lot Description

Description:
A very beautiful Jacquard-type mechanical tapestry painting from the first half of the 20th century (circa 1930-1950). The work depicts a genre scene animated with Flemish or Dutch inspiration from the 17th-18th century, featuring a group of sailors and fishermen negotiating on a shore, with a sailing boat moored in the background. The fineness of the weaving accurately renders the expressions of the characters, their period costumes (notably a gentleman in a tricorne) and the play of light in the sky.

On the back, the mounting measuring 52.5 cm x 39 cm is entirely period, sealed under a panel of Isorel/bouillied cardboard and protected by its original gummed kraft paper strips, topped by its triangular brass attachment in raw metal.

Condition Report:
• Tapestry: Good overall condition with beautiful original colors. Presence of slight localized wear (tiny light and dark warp threads fraying very discreetly on the surface of the reliefs of the characters, typical of an old dusting), with no impact on the overall aesthetic of the scene.
• Frame: Original black lacquered stucco frame. Presence of an old transverse crack and microscopic superficial chips on the moulding (visible with close inspection), related to natural wood movement and handling.
An authentic retro decorative object, charged with history.
