Description from the seller
Chinese agate sculpture – Shou Lao, the god of longevity – 20th century
- Height: about 19 cm
- Width: about 12.5 cm
- Weight: about 950 g including the base
Beautiful Chinese sculpture in hard stone, probably agate, representing Shou Lao, the Chinese god of longevity.
Shou Lao is depicted with his characteristic face, long beard, and large headdress, accompanied by various symbols of longevity, notably peaches and botanical elements.
The sculpture is particularly interesting due to natural variations in the stone, showing many hues of honey yellow, orange, reddish brown, gray and translucent. The fine parts of the stone reveal a lovely translucency when illuminated.
The carving is detailed, with several openwork sections and finely worked reliefs. The piece is presented on a carved wooden base.
A small inscription is engraved directly on the stone.
Overall condition: very good, with a few signs of age. Please look carefully at the photographs which are an integral part of the description.
A beautiful decorative piece of Chinese art, especially interesting for enthusiasts of hard stone sculptures and Chinese symbolism.
