Description from the seller
Pair of large French wall sconces with two arms of light, attributed to Maison Baguès, Paris, circa 1966.
A very beautiful pair with vegetal decoration composed of long branches, leaves and flowers in gilded and patinated metal.
Provenance stated at their previous auction as follows:
“Paris, Baguès, acquired by the current owners’ parents in 1966.”
No signature, label or maker’s mark is currently visible on the sconces. They are therefore presented as attributed to Maison Baguès, in accordance with the provenance indicated by the auction house.
Each sconce includes two curved light arms terminated by floral bobèches surrounding the candle cups.
The very slender vegetal composition and the antique patina give this pair a particularly interesting decorative presence, characteristic of French lighting from the second half of the 20th century.
Specifications:
- Pair of 2 sconces
- France
- Circa 1966
- Height: 51 cm
- 2 lights per sconce
- 4 lights in total
- Gilded and patinated metal
- Decoration of branches, foliage and flowers
Condition:
Good overall antique condition.
Presence of substantial patina, color variations, wear to the gilding and small traces of oxidation consistent with the pieces’ age. These elements are visible in the photographs and contribute to their antique character.
