Description from the seller

Derbent Russian
Oriental rug handmade in wool, with two central medallions in a floral design, surrounded by three floral borders in different colors.
Sold with its certificate of authenticity.
Derbent (Derbent rug): hand-knotted rug with geometric motifs made in the city of Derbent and its surroundings, in Dagestan, in the northeast Caucasus. Rugs made before 1925 are distinguished from others by a longer pile, fewer colors, and by a looser, larger knot.
When we talk about Caucasian rugs, we refer to rugs originating from regions located to the south, east, and north of the Caucasus mountain range. Rugs produced before 1925 are divided into five groups: Kazakh, Karabakh, Shirvan, Kuba, and Dagestani. Rugs from the Karabakh region often feature soft motifs and resemble Persian carpets. Besides this classification, there are also Gandja, Silé and Verni. These rugs are distinguished by their very varied and imaginative geometric motifs.
