Description from the seller

Fantastic book, very rare.
In excellent condition, only minor imperfections as shown in the photos

*LaChapelle Heaven to Hell* is the third, highly anticipated volume of an exciting trilogy that began with *LaChapelle Land* (1996) and continued with the well-known *Hotel LaChapelle* (1999). Rich in striking images, with saturated colors and provocative, both titles quickly became collectible objects and have been reprinted several times. With a number of images almost double that of the previous volumes, *LaChapelle Heaven to Hell* is an explosive collection of new work by the visionary photographer. Since the publication of *Hotel LaChapelle*, the strength of LaChapelle’s work lies in the ability to point the lens – typical of the world of celebrities and fashion – toward social issues of greater urgency. LaChapelle’s images — which depict the planet’s most famous faces and marginalized figures such as the transgender Amanda Lepore or the stars of his acclaimed social documentary *Rize* — challenge our relationship with gender, glamour, and status. Through his characteristic baroque excess, LaChapelle overturns the consumerism he seemingly celebrates, instead highlighting the apocalyptic consequences for humanity itself. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as the Renaissance, art history, cinema, the Bible, pornography, and the globalized new pop culture, LaChapelle has created a deeply personal visual language representative of an era, capable of reflecting our times. Presented in the sumptuous packaging with the slipcase and the hardcover typical of the trilogy, *LaChapelle Heaven to Hell* is an indispensable volume for anyone interested in contemporary photography. It is also offered at a favorable price, especially for those who desired the TASCHEN limited edition *LaChapelle, Artists & Prostitutes*. The artist: Still a high school student, David LaChapelle received his first professional assignment from Andy Warhol: to shoot for the magazine *Interview*. His photographs have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, including the Tony Shafrazi Gallery and the Deitch Projects in New York, the Fahey-Klein Gallery in California, Camerawork in Germany, as well as the Sozzani Gallery and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Italy. His images, which depict celebrities and icons of contemporary pop culture with a free and bold style, have appeared on the covers and inside magazines such as Vogue Italia, Vogue France, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and i-D. LaChapelle has also directed music videos for artists such as Moby, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and The Vines. His growing interest in cinema led him to produce the documentary short *Krumped* — awarded at Sundance — from which he later developed *RIZE*, the feature film released worldwide in 2005 to enormous critical acclaim. The magazine *American Photo* recently named him among the ten most important figures in the world of photography.
