China, Tibet - Gereinigd; hand-knotted oriental rug in wool on cotton, measuring 337 cm by 254 cm.
Description from the seller
-- A remarkable & semi-antique Tibetan rug; an impressive piece in beautiful condition
-- Professionally cleaned*
-- approx. 160,000 knots per m²
-- With certificate
*Before entering our warehouse, cleaned at a laundry specialized in hand-knotted rugs, then not used again.
This is a hand-knotted Oriental rug, made from durable, natural materials. The knotting technique and the variety of patterns make this rug unique and emphasize its authentic, artisanal character.
It is an excellent used rug with an exceptionally long lifespan.
This is a lightly used, cleaned rug that can be laid out as is. This beautiful Tibetan rug is hand-knotted circa 1960 with the finest, undyed wool sourced from sheep in the high Tibetan region. This wool is naturally extra greasy due to the cold temperatures (it acts as an insulator for the sheep). When used in carpets, this not only provides a beautiful, extra sheen but also serves as a natural protective layer. Wool of this quality is (almost) not to be found. Naturally there are color differences visible, because the wool is not bleached prior to the first dye bath. This gives the rug an authentic radiance and contributes to the character of this rug that is full of stories.
Main color: Coral/Red
Accent colors: Cream and black
Details: Rich abrash (natural color variations); Much sheen; Beautiful, clean and fresh; Full, thick and cushioned rug; Gorgeous luster; Depending on the viewing angle this rug has a lighter and a darker side; Impressive rug; A remarkable object; Characterful; Semi-antique.
Signs of use: Minimal edge wear, despite still an impressive rug in good condition (photo 15).
