Description from the seller
Silver Vase "Pedro Muñoz"
Dimensions: 23 cm x 23 cm x 11 cm
Silver: 925
Weight: 1.014 g
Silversmith: Pedro Muñoz.
Pedro Muñoz (Segovia, late 15th century – ca. 1547) was a Segovian silversmith belonging to a lineage of Segovian artists in this metal, including his father Diego Muñoz I and his son Diego Muñoz II, among others.
He presumably trained in the family workshop with Diego Muñoz I, who is considered his father. The first records place him in 1522, working for Segovia Cathedral in repairs, cleanings and restorations, coinciding with the end of Antonio de Oquendo as its official silversmith.
His work was primarily destined for the province of Segovia. Among the works he produced are a cross and chrismatories for Villafranca, and the crosses of Perorrubio, Martín Miguel and Adrada de Pirón. Additionally, in 1542 he, together with his son Diego, made the cups of the old candlesticks of Segovia Cathedral. It is believed that he died around 1547, when his son began to take over the projects they had carried out together.
