AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Superb and rare collectible vase from the famous Swedish manufacturer Elme Glasbruk, created in 1928 by designer Edvin Ollers.
This piece in pressed-mould glass in amethyst color (light violet) features a rich high-relief textured decor representing intertwined mistletoe branches and their berries. This iconic model directly draws on naturalism and the geometry of French Art Deco, notably René Lalique’s botanical creations.
Although it bears a vegetal motif, this vase is a pure example of Swedish Art Deco 5style “Swedish Grace” from the 1920s-1930s.

* Description of shape and structural details

This vase adopts a generous, rounded “ball vase” (globe form) silhouette perfectly symmetrical.
The remarkable feature of its silhouette is that it rests on a slender, elegant circular foot. This small, recessed base delicately elevates the main structure, providing a light visual transition and a perfectly stable base. The upper part terminates in a straight, short circular neck, forming a clean opening that harmonizes with the line of the foot.
Photographs highlight the quality of the moulding work:
• A covering relief: The mistletoe branches and berries cover the entire body of the piece, creating a play of thicknesses that beautifully varies the intensity of the amethyst color depending on the light.
• A crisp foot: The views from the bottom and side confirm the purity of the foot’s line, free of firing defects or chips.
• Crystal-clear transparency: The top-down view shows the purity of the glass paste and the fidelity of the color, without internal opacity.

This vase can adapt to different interior styles, from Art Deco with elegant and sophisticated décors. Its spherical shape, its relief vegetal decoration, and its delicate shade ideally highlight spaces with noble materials such as black or light marble, gilt brass, precious wood, and refined textiles. It will also suit a bohemian-chic interior.
Naturally, it will find its place in a modernist or contemporary setting, placed on a console, coffee table, or sideboard, where its play of light and its sculptural relief can be fully appreciated.

Photos 6 to 8 will help you envision it in different interior types.

- Detailed description:

• Object type: Vase
• About the artist: Edvin Ollers (1888–1959)

Edvin Ollers was a leading Swedish painter and industrial designer, considered one of the pioneers of modern glass art in Scandinavia. Trained in the plastic arts, he revolutionized the design of everyday objects by collaborating with the country’s major manufacturers (Kosta, Reijmyre, and Limmared). His work is distinguished by a subtle alliance between Nordic decorative traditions and European avant-garde movements, giving his pressed-glass pieces a unique sculptural and highly artistic character.

• About the manufacturer: Elme Glasbruk

Founded in 1917 in Älmhult (Småland), the Elme Glasbruk glassworks is a historic signature of Swedish glass art, active until 1970. During the collaboration period with Edvin Ollers (between 1926 and 1930), the factory enjoyed its creative golden era, notably with the launch of stained and relief-masted glass series (such as the EOL range). Elme Glasbruk democratized Art Deco elegance with high technical quality pieces, now highly sought after by collectors of 20th-century Scandinavian design.

• Style: Swedish Art Deco or Swedish Grace.

• Era / Period: Circa 1928 – 1930.

• Country of origin: Sweden.

• Material: Molded glass with mass-coloring.

• The absence of a signature on this vase is entirely normal for a large part of the molded glass production of this series, attribution to the glassworks and to the designer being documented and historically undisputed.

• Color: Amethyst / light violet

• Dimensions:
- Height: 17 cm
- Width: 17 cm
- Neck diameter: 6.5 cm

• Weight: Approximately 760 g.

• Condition: Excellent, no chips, no cracks. Very beautiful glass luster, normal minor wear under the base and a tiny orange spot inside the vase on the wall above the foot (see the last two photos for this small mark barely visible). Please see the numerous photos that form part of the description.
