Mexican Crazy Lace Agate skull from Chihuahua, Mexico; 4.9 × 3.5 × 3.2 cm and 76 g.
Description from the seller
According to Aztec tradition, our world is not the first. Four suns have preceded it, and each went under: the first, when jaguars devoured the people; the second in mighty storms; the third in a rain of fire; the fourth in a flood. From the ruins of each world a new one arose. We live under the fifth sun, Nahui Ollin, 'Four Movement', and it will one day end in earthquakes. On the famous Aztec Sun Stone, which came to light in 1790 beneath the main square of Mexico City, the four past ages frame the sign of the present.
This skull carries that sequence of fracture and rebirth on a small scale within itself. The finest microlamellae, layer upon layer laid over each other, here are offset against each other. Thus completely new constructions and patterns arise, which repeatedly break apart within themselves and elsewhere continue in a new form. On the skull cap lies an earthy, reddish-brown plate like a piece of broken ground. Smaller traces of iron are scattered across the entire surface as embers.
What broke here was actually the Earth itself. After the fine agate layers formed, movements in the Earth’s crust cracked the rock. New silica-rich solutions cemented the fragments back together and let fresh bands grow around them. Crazy Lace Agate comes from the Chihuahua region in northern Mexico and is about 65 to 90 million years old.
