AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare pouring jug, probably moka can, by the prominent Dutch Art Nouveau artist Jan Eisenloeffel.

Dutch Art Nouveau can be subdivided into two directions: one decorative and one a bit stricter, with emphasis on material usage and honest construction. The leading proponent of this movement was the architect H.P. Berlage, who designed one of the most important buildings in Amsterdam, the Beurs van Berlage, based on these design principles. For the applied arts, designer Jan Eisenloeffel was perhaps the foremost figure.

His language of form was simple, with influences from the English Arts & Crafts movement. The nailed construction of the spout and handle and the sober decoration of the concentric circles halfway along the body emphasize this philosophy, which also suited Calvinist Netherlands well.

Good condition.
