A pair of Murano glass pendant lamps by Imperio Rossi Murano (Italy), dating from the 1990s, featuring a dense millefiori mosaic with internal silver leaf inclusions and contrasting colour colature finishes, with one lamp 17 cm high and 13 cm in diameter and the other 15.5 cm high and 12.35 cm in diameter, both in used condition and not currently working.
Description from the seller
A splendid pair of Murano glass pendant lamps attributed to the craftsmanship of master glassmaker Imperio Rossi (whose cold-etched signature is commonly presented as "I. Rossi Murano"). This specific production line, dating from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, combines the ancient traditional technique of millefiori murrine with a contemporary design, characterized by dome/cupola shapes and unique material details. One dome is 17 cm high with a diameter of 13 cm; the other is 15.5 cm high with a diameter of 12.35 cm.
Technical and stylistic details of the work
• Fabrication: The upper body of the diffusers is studded with a densely mosaic mosaic of multicolor millefiori murrine applied hot to the glass surface. This complex workmanship is internally enriched with crushed inclusions in silver leaf, which create a reflective and translucent effect similar to mercury or ice.
• The Contrast Drips: A distinctive trait of Imperio Rossi’s works from this period is the conspicuous raised glass drips (also referred to as "colade" or "sbruffi"). In the left lamp, the drips and the base flow into a vibrant blue/aquamarine glass. In the right lamp, the dark drips create a plastic contrast on a ruby/crimson wine-colored base.
• Authenticity Mark: On the blue lamp, the original gold sticker of the Murano Artistic Glass consortium is clearly visible, a fundamental guarantee of provenance and collector protection.
