A fine Japanese two‑section chadansu tea cabinet in zelkova burl with a lacquer‑like finish, in modern style dating to circa 1950–1970; the two sections separate for transport, dimensions W260 x D43 x H177 cm and weight about 55–65 kg.
Description from the seller
A fine Japanese tea cabinet (chadansu) in two stacked sections, made of figured, reddish-brown burl wood that appears to be zelkova (keyaki), with a lacquer-like finish. The upper section has four small sliding panels above a glazed sliding-door cabinet with shelves and a built-in drawer; the lower section has sliding doors, a bank of three graduated drawers and a wide base drawer, all fitted with decorative bronze pulls. The handsome swirling grain (tamamoku) is a highlight of the piece, and the interior is lined with traditional paper. The two sections separate for transport. Such cabinets were used in Japanese homes to store and display tea utensils and tableware.
Condition: Good antique condition with honest age-related wear consistent with its age and use: surface scratches, small dents, minor fading and patina, and light wear to the finish and hardware. The original character has been left untouched. All photographs show the piece as it is; please study the detail photos carefully, as they form part of the description.
