Russian Orthodox brass icon of Christ on the throne with the Elect in a Deesis – 19th century

Russian Orthodox brass icon with a depiction of Christ on the throne, surrounded by various saints and angels, executed in richly detailed relief.

Description
Centered is Christ depicted, seated on a throne and surrounded by various saints. The scene is known as the Deesis of the Elect, with Christ worshipped as heavenly Judge and ruler.

Behind the throne stand the archangels Michael and Gabriel. Around Christ are depicted several important saints from the Orthodox tradition, including John the Theologian, Peter and Paul, and John Chrysostom.

In the lower section are Saint Nicholas and Saint Sergius, as well as Zosima and Savvati, two important Russian monastic saints.

The icon is executed in cast brass with detailed robes, nimbs and a richly decorated floral border. On the reverse there is a later affixed label with a description of the scene and a dating to the 18th century.
