Antique bronze fireplace set with a decorative stand and four hanging tools in a neogothic/classical style, dating to around the 1950s–1960s in Europe, featuring pelican-shaped handles, a carved floral base, a fine patina, and dimensions of 61 cm high, 23 cm wide and 15 cm deep, weighing 2.2 kg.
Description from the seller
This object is a richly decorated brass or bronze antique fireplace set (also known as a hearth garniture). It is a classic open-fireplace accessory executed in a rich Neo-Gothic or classical style.
The set consists of a decorated stand and four hanging tools:
• Ash brush / broom (with black bristles)
• Ash shovel / ash scoop
• Fireplace tongs
• Fireplace poker
Characteristic of this specific vintage model are the pelican- or bird-shaped handles and the ornamental motifs at the top of the rack, which take the form of classical faces or masks. The stand rests on an openwork floral foot.
This specific model of fireplace set almost certainly dates from the mid-20th century, roughly the period between 1950 and 1970 (vintage). Probably French.
Although the design with the masks and pelican handles is strongly inspired by the classical Neo-Gothic and Victorian styles of the 19th century, this type of richly decorated brass fireplace sets were produced as decorative reproductions in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. This means the set is currently estimated to be between 55 and 75 years old.
This fireplace set has a fine patina and has intentionally not been polished to a high gloss.
