Description from the seller
Stupendous Hessonite Garnet with Diopside and Clinoclore - Bellecombe, Châtillon, Aosta Valley - Top Collection Mineral
Product Description:
For sale an exceptional and extraordinary collection specimen from one of Italy's most iconic and renowned mineral localities worldwide for the quality of its silicates: Bellecombe, in the municipality of Châtillon, in the Aosta Valley.
The dominant and most precious element of this piece is a richly aggregate of garnet crystals in the precious variety Hessonite (Grossularia). As highlighted in the macros, the main crystals present with superior crystalline geometric perfection, characterized by smooth faces, sharp edges, and an impeccably rombododecahedral habit. The color is a splendid and intense vitreous red-orange, warm and deep (typical amber/cinnamon color), endowed with a luster and extraordinary internal transparency that create magnificent plays of light and reddish reflections under illumination.
The garnets are laid and elegantly surrounded by a dense paragenesis of prismatic Diopside crystals, of a delicate light olive-green color and translucent, and by lamellar aggregates of dark green Clinoclore. The strong chromatic contrast between the vibrant red-orange of the hessonite and the various shades of green of the associated minerals gives the specimen an aesthetic and visual impact of the highest level.
A display piece for an important showcase, ideal for discerning collectors of Alpine minerals and top-quality type specimens.
