Vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi Pop titled "Seiya" by Akira Tamura, handmade in Japan from wood with a deep brown bob cut and a serene expression, measuring 22.5 cm high, 9 cm wide and 9 cm deep, produced in 1980–1990 and in excellent vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful and authentic creative (Sōsaku) Kokeshi doll, titled "Seiya" (静夜 - Silent Night), designed by the renowned Japanese folk artist Akira Tamura (晃常 - also read as Kojo or Mitsutsune).
This doll is a brilliant example of postwar Japanese folk art. It is characterized by its minimalist, sculptural form, the deep brown bob, and an exceedingly serene facial expression. The wooden body is finely decorated with an incised peony and geometric lattice patterns in the wood.
Unique historical detail:
The underside of the doll features an authentic hand-written inscription in black ink. The text documents a personal journey and reads: "S.63.10.8 / Sendai - Matsushima travel guide / For Maten-sama". This means the doll was given on 8 October 1988 (Showa 63) as a keepsake from a vacation in the famous Matsushima Bay near Sendai.
In very good vintage condition with minimal, normal signs of aging appropriate to its age. See the close-up photos for an accurate impression.
There are no customs charges for shipments within the European Union!
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped.
