Greece, 1927 – 20 lepta, printing error on the reverse with a partially inverted impression on the gum; mint condition.
Description from the seller
Greece – 20 lepta – Printing error on the back – Partially inverted impression on the gum
Greek 20 lepta stamp, depicting a winged figure, presenting a particularly interesting printing anomaly.
The front bears a normal, complete impression. By contrast, the back shows a second partial, clean, and inverted impression reproducing the Greek inscription “ΕΛΛΑΣ”, the columns, and a portion of the upper drawing.
Visual examination shows that the black ink seems to have been deposited directly onto the gum. The gum remains visible in the non-printed areas, while the black areas appear to be gum-free on the surface.
David Feldman note:
This stamp was submitted to Allan Westphall, a philatelist at David Feldman, the international philatelic auction house.
In his written response, Mr. Westphall states:
“We believe that this 20-pound Greek stamp is a true printing error.”
He nevertheless notes that it could be accepted within a larger collection.
Condition and features:
* Mint, with no visible canceller.
* Gum present on the back.
* Partially inverted back impression.
* Anomaly compatible with an accidental ink transfer.
* Professional favorable opinion from David Feldman, without a certificate of expertise.
Conclusion:
An item showing a probable printing error, documented by detailed photographs and accompanied by a favorable written opinion from David Feldman.
The exact mechanism of the anomaly and its philatelic classification remain to be confirmed by specialized expertise.
