Description from the seller
Kokeshi-pop "Morning Chill" (often indicated with the Japanese theme of the early morning or winter cold) is a beautiful example of a Sōsaku (creative) Kokeshi-pop, designed by the legendary Japanese master craftsman Hajime Takahashi (also written as Hashime Takahashi, 1918–2002).
Takahashi won many prestigious prizes during his life, including the coveted Prime Minister's Award (the highest distinction for Sōsaku Kokeshi artists). His creations exude a lyrical, calm atmosphere and stand out for their unique, dreamy facial expressions rendered with ultra-fine brushstrokes.
This beautiful image of a child ready for the winter snow has two special characteristics. The head is a separate element atop the doll and is depicted very expressively, notably the eyes, the pointed nose, and the abstract curl of the hair on top. There are also strands of hair on both sides of the face (not ears) visible. The second expressive feature is the finely detailed vermilion-red scarf around the neck that falls along the front of the body downward. As shown here, Takahashi-san has an unusual way of presenting clothing elements in a very painterly manner.
The base of the head and the body are left natural and finished with undyed wax (Rōsoku no rō). The piece bears Takahashi's signature and stamp on the bottom.
These are in vintage condition with the usual signs of aging; please use the zoom function.
There are no clearing/customs charges when shipping within the European Union!
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped.
