Description from the seller
Interesting and rare ancient bronze ecclesiastical seal, engraved, belonging to a high prelate of the Catholic Church: Pio Vincenzo Forzani, Bishop of Susa and of Vigevano.
The seal features a refined heraldic engraving with episcopal coat of arms, surmounted by a noble crown and the traditional ecclesiastical hat (galero), with cords and tassels arranged symmetrically at the sides.
The central shield depicts three heraldic lilies in the upper part and a rampant lion in the lower part, accompanied by floral ornamental elements.
Along the edge runs a Latin inscription, engraved in mirror image to allow correct reading on the wax seal impression, referable to Mons. Forzani.
The seal is made of solid bronze, with particularly sharp and detailed engravings, testimony to the accuracy of the engraving art of the period.
On the lateral edge there is an ancient handwritten inscription engraved, accompanied by a partially legible date, which constitutes another element of historical interest.
The reverse features an engraving depicting an arrow.
Complete with its original circular case, which shows a fracture and signs of wear compatible with its age.
Good overall preservation. Case with visible cracks, as documented in the photographs.
Origin: Italy
Era: 19th century
Measurements: 5.5 cm in diameter x 1.5 cm. Weight: 286 g
An interesting historical and collectible object, particularly suitable for enthusiasts of heraldry, ecclesiastical history, seal collecting, and religious antiques.
