Relief plaque in gilded bronze with Saint Joseph and Child Jesus among angels and clouds
Rectangular plaque in mercury-gilded bronze, worked in relief and finished in chasing, with Saint Joseph holding the Child Jesus, who holds a small cross in his hand. The Saint, with a halo and long robe, is depicted standing on a sea of clouds; at his feet is seen the blooming staff, a typical symbol of Saint Joseph.
Above the scene a Dove of the Holy Spirit from which numerous rays radiate across the upper field; among the clouds and the rays are several cherubs and winged heads, carefully modeled. The clouds are rendered with dense chasing of scales and scrolls, creating a beautiful play of light on the gilding. On the back, with dark patina and irregular surface, there is at the center a small pierced stud for mounting.
The plaque is mercury gilded bronze (fire gilding).
