Description from the seller

In the 60s-70s the ashtray was a widely used object to which the period’s most famous designers dedicated themselves. Today these objects often lose their original function, remaining as rare decorative items to collect, a testament to one of the liveliest moments in the history of Italian design.

The 1968 ashtray by Sergio Asti for Cedit conceals its function and presents itself as an iconic presence in the furnishings through an image inspired by space and Saturn’s rings.
Designer Sergio Asti
Among the founders of Italian industrial design, the Milanese designer has been an interpreter of a new relationship between creativity and industry. Awarded in 1962 the Compasso d’Oro and then other prizes, he has exhibited in several important museums including the London Design Museum (1989), the MoMA in New York (2005), the Philadelphia Museum (2008).
