Description from the seller
Large fossil ammonite of the species Kranaosphinctes rabei, from southwestern Madagascar and dating to the Upper Jurassic, Oxfordian, about 161-156 million years ago.
A specimen of great impact, with a maximum diameter of 375 mm and a weight of 14,400 grams. The shell shows a wide and clearly readable spiral, with a deep central umbilicus, regular whorls and prominent radial ribbing, typical of ammonites in the Perisphinctidae family.
The surface presents light tones ranging from warm white, cream, ivory and honey beige, with ocher veining and light ferruginous nuances. These colors are linked to fossilization in ancient marine carbonate sediments of the Morondava Basin, rich in calcite and light materials.
An important fossil, very decorative and ideal for a paleontological collection, Wunderkammer, study or naturalistic interior design.
