Description from the seller
Magnificent Italian-made secretaire-dresser by the prestigious Fratelli Borghesani of Bovolone, one of Verona’s most renowned artisan workshops, specialized in high-quality artistic furniture. This exclusive piece, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century, represents a refined interpretation of French models inspired by Louis XVI and Napoleonic III, adapted to Italian taste through extraordinary craftsmanship.
Built in carefully selected walnut wood, it presents an elegant structure with sinuous, balanced lines, a bombé front and curved sides that add dynamism and sophistication to the whole. The drop-front top reveals its desk function, masterfully integrating the utility of a secretaire with the storage capacity of a chest of drawers, a feature highly valued in representative furniture of the period.
The entire surface is enriched with delicate marquetry inlays from Bovolone, executed with great precision using woods of different tones that draw stylized plant motifs, scrolls, and symmetric compositions inspired by XVIII-century French ornamental repertoires. These decorations are harmoniously distributed across the top, the drawers, and the sides, highlighting the rich color of the walnut grain and evidencing the high technical level of the firm’s master artisans.
The lower body is organized with broad drawers having a wavy front, fitted with elegant rococo-inspired metal pulls that subtly contrast with the warmth of the wood. The piece rests on slightly curved stylized legs, imparting visual lightness to a solid and balanced composition.
Particularly notable is its character as a numbered and exclusive item, preserving inside the first drawer the original identification plate of Fratelli Borghesani Bovolone, certifying its provenance and underscoring its status as a selective artistic piece. This identification, characteristic of the firm’s highest-quality works, adds important documentary and collector’s value.
For construction quality, design, and state of conservation, this secretaire-dresser constitutes an exceptional example of Italian transitional artistic furniture from the 19th to the 20th century, combining practicality, decorative refinement, and the artisan excellence that made the Bovolone workshops famous across Europe. Ideal for both classic and elegant interiors and eclectic spaces where one seeks a singular piece with personality, history, and a notable decorative presence.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
