Description from the seller
JAMAICA. 1/2 Penny. 1928. George V (1910-1936)
- Value: 1/2 Penny.
- Reign: George V (1910-1936).
- Year: 1928.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: GEORGE V KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA · 1928. Reverse: JAMAICA · HALF PENNY, with the Jamaica colonial shield.
- Grading: MS64 (NGC).
Half-penny coin minted for Jamaica during the reign of George V. The obverse features the crowned bust of the sovereign looking to the left, engraved in the sober and refined style characteristic of British interwar imperial coinage, surrounded by the legend bearing his royal and imperial titles. The reverse shows the Jamaica colonial shield, the central element of the heraldic composition, accompanied by the denomination HALF PENNY and the name of the colony. The specimen stands out for the good preservation of its details, with crisp relief on both the portrait and the shield, relatively clean fields and attractive original luster still visible beneath a light silvery-gray patina. The few contact marks observed are typical of a coin preserved in MS64 grade. This issue is part of the British colonial monetary system in the Caribbean and represents one of the fractional denominations used in Jamaica during the late years of economic stability prior to the Great Depression.
