Description from the seller

Display dome. Height 50 cm. Length 32 cm. Large dome

The glass may show slight imperfections due to the handmade production method.

This is a 19th-century French bridal dome (also known as a globe de mariée or Napoleon III bridal dome).

Features of this bridal dome:

• Glass dome: A mouth-blown glass dome resting on a black wood or blackened wood (ebony-look) pedestal.
• Interior: The interior is made of gilded metal (ormolu/brass) with finely worked leaves, flowers and a small mirror in the center.
• Velvet cushion: In the center sits a red velvet cushion (often tufted). Traditionally, the bride’s wedding crown or orange blossom was placed here.
• Symbolism: In 19th-century France (Napoleon III era) newlyweds were given this dome as a wedding gift. During their marriage, valuable keepsakes and memories were kept inside.
