Description from the seller

Ancient reliquary crucifix with multiple saints’ relics – 19th century

Exceptional gilded metal open reliquary crucifix, housing a substantial collection of fabric reliquaries, with no human remains (24) arranged on a red fabric background.

The interior features remarkable gilt paper filigree work, accompanied by numerous handwritten tituli identifying the relics, notably those of Saint Clare, Saint Maximus, Saint Ursula and several other saints and martyrs.

The crucifix also features two central medallions, including a medallion of the Immaculate Virgin and a blue-ground medallion presenting a religious figure.

On the exterior, the Crucified Christ and the Virgin are depicted in relief. The reverse is adorned with the Instruments of the Passion (Arma Christi) and the Sacred Heart.

Condition: good antique state, with gilding wear, patina and traces of time. Inner construction preserved, with some alterations of decorative elements and labels.

A devotional piece particularly interesting for the richness of its decoration and the number of relics it gathers.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. They allow you to assess its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns the reliquary solely as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
