Commemorative 5 Leva coin minted in 1978 by the People's Republic of Bulgaria to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Peyo K. Yavorov, one of the most prominent figures in modern Bulgarian literature. The obverse features a portrait with strong expressive force of the poet and playwright, executed with realistic and meticulous modeling that highlights his facial features and introspective gaze. The composition is complemented by his name and the birth and death years. The reverse shows the state coat of arms of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, with the heraldic lion surrounded by ears of grain and topped by a star, accompanied by the denomination of 5 Leva and the issuing date. The surfaces exhibit an extraordinary proof finish, with deeply mirrored fields creating an intense contrast with the frosted reliefs, contributing to a high visual quality.
