Leica IIf camera from an early production batch paired with a Leitz Summitar 5cm f/2 lens (1939 pre‑WWII), serials 451789 and 489998, in very good cosmetic condition and tested working, with the rare original hood and chrome lens cap.
Description from the seller
Stunning Leica IIf (1951 - Factory upgrade 1/1000s) + Leitz Summitar 5cm f/2 (1939 - 10-blade aperture) - With rare lens hood & chrome cap - Fully clear glass!
Offered is a very fine and historically fascinating Leica rangefinder set, consisting of a gorgeous Leica IIf screw-mount camera (LTM) and the legendary, bright Leitz Summitar 5cm f/2 lens. The set is in exceptionally beautiful condition and is supplied with the rare original lens hood and the accompanying chrome lens cap.
Camera body: Leica IIf (Black Dial)
• Serial number: 451789 (produced in 1951)
• Production: From the VERY FIRST production batch of the IIf model (batch 451001 - 455000).
• Condition: In superb cosmetic condition. The vulcanite covering is completely intact and the chrome parts show only minimal signs of use.
• Shutter: A exceptional specimen. While early IIfs normally go up to 1/500s, this camera features shutter speeds from 1/30s to as high as 1/1000th of a second. This indicates a highly sought-after factory upgrade by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar. The shutter cloth shows ribbing, see photo (for use it is advisable to replace it). The fast speeds operate smoothly and sound accurate. The slow speeds should be serviced.
Lens: Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Summitar 5cm 1:2
• Serial number: 489998 (produced in 1939, pre-WWII)
• Features: Equipped with the very sought-after early 10-blade diaphragm for fabulously, perfectly circular vintage bokeh.
• Optical condition: Exceptionally beautiful and clear. The glass is completely free of mold, scratches, or haze. This is extremely rare for a Summitar of this age and guarantees razor-sharp results with the characteristic vintage contrast.
• Mechanical condition: The focus mechanism and the aperture operate wonderfully smoothly.
Included accessories:
• Rare original folding rectangular Leitz lens hood.
• Original chrome Leica lens cap.
A superb, historically interesting and immediately usable set for both the discerning Leica collector and the analogue photographer. See the extensive photo report for an accurate impression of the cosmetic condition.
