Description from the seller
Important antique frame in the "Salvator Rosa" style – black lacquer and exposed gilding / 1960s of the 20th century
Typology: Decorative art frame / Ogee frame in the "Salvator Rosa" style
Era: 1960s of the 20th century
Style: Classic, molded "Salvator Rosa" profile, characterized by a deep groove and strict lines. The particular finish features an external black lacquer that lets the underlying gilding along the edges and moldings come to the fore with a highly scenographic effect.
Technique and Materials:
Support: Carved solid wood, assembled and prepared by hand.
Finish: Period black lacquer with controlled wear and the gold leaf gilding showing through, creating a striking two-tone color contrast (black and gold) with a strongly decorative and antique impact. Back panel in wood with numerical markings and a hanging hook applied.
General conditions: Overall excellent conservational condition. The surface shows the natural and intentional wear of the lacquer and gilding, which enhance its lived-in, antique character. Structurally solid and intact.
