Description from the seller
Important antique frame in the “Salvator Rosa” style with an intricately carved inner moulding – 24-karat gold / 18th century (1700s)
Type: Antique frame / grooved and moulded carved frame in the “Salvator Rosa” style
Period: 18th century (1700s)
Style: Classical profile in the “Salvator Rosa” tradition, enriched by a splendid inner decorative raised band (foliage/scroll motifs) alternating with gold-plated parts, flanked by a deep rebate and linear mouldings typical of top-quality cabinet-making of the era.
Technique and Materials:
Support: Solid carved wood prepared with plaster and bole (visible in the typical warm, reddish tones that appear).
Gilding: Fine gold leaf gilding with water-gilding technique, finished with manual brunitura. The surface features a magnificent, authentic and deep patina of age, with craquelure and natural wear that unmistakably attest to its authenticity and eighteenth-century antiquity.
General condition: Good conservation for its age. The structure is solid and intact; the gilding and preparation show signs of time consistent with the period (please examine the photographs, which are an integral part of the description).
Historical and artistic notes:
18th-century Salvator Rosa-style moulded frames, enriched with carved details, are museum pieces and of very high antiquarian value. They are highly sought after by collectors worldwide to enhance important antique paintings or to confer timeless elegance to any high-end environment.
