Antique Chinese Peking rug with a dragon medallion, 230 × 160 cm, wool pile on cotton foundation, origin China, dating to the early 20th century, overall in fair condition with traces of ageing and usage.
Description from the seller
This is an antique Chinese Peking rug featuring a dragon motif, dating to approximately 1900–1920.
It is a vintage hand-knotted rug from Northern China, created in the Peking (Beijing) tradition, likely in the early 20th century. It features a wool pile on a cotton foundation.
The color palette consists of classic blue, ivory, and turquoise tones. The center features a striking dragon medallion surrounded by vases, floral motifs, and traditional Chinese ornaments; the composition is framed by a meander-pattern border.
Dimensions: 230 × 160 cm.
The rug is authentically old and shows significant signs of use: the pile is heavily worn in places, with areas of thinning and damage to the edges. Its condition is clearly visible in the photographs. Despite the wear, the beautiful composition and the characteristic color palette of an antique Peking rug remain intact. Notably, the photograph of the reverse side shows that the rug's structure remains sound and sturdy.
