Magnificent authentic antique lamp base dating to 1850–1900, carved in green onyx with bronze and gilt bronze elements, featuring a Corinthian capital and four claw feet with an original brass collar, not in working order.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and authentic antique oil lamp base designed in the form of a classical Corinthian-style architectural column, dating from the late 19th century (Napoleon III era / Fleurons of the Empire style).
• The shaft and the base: The cylindrical column as well as the stepped square base are entirely carved from high-quality natural green onyx. Perfectly polished, it reveals superb natural veining in burgundy, russet, and whitish tones.
• The bronzes & brass: The structure is enhanced by chiselled and gilded bronze elements. The top is crowned by a rich Corinthian capital adorned with acanthus leaves. The base rests on four claw feet finely carved with scrolling foliage. The upper part still has its bowl and its original brass collar connecting it.
• The underside of the scene & workshop marks: The underside of the base confirms artisanal manufacture of the period with its central threaded rod assembly, its original nut and screws. Hand-engraved workshop marks are etched in the stone (digit “47” and assembly letters “AM” or “M”), serving as mounting guides of the time.
