Polar Philately: Rare Collection of 23 Covers From/To Soviet North Pole Drifting Stations, Worldwide origin, postal used with address, dating 1957–1987, including the Severny Polyus SP-6 covers and other polar rarities.
Description from the seller
An extraordinary and highly comprehensive collection of 23 historic Polar Philately covers, centered around the famous Soviet drifting ice research stations "North Pole" (Severny Polyus / СП) operating in the Arctic Ocean.
This collection beautifully documents the challenging postal network and connecting flights between these isolated ice camps and the rest of the world during the Cold War era.
The lot stands out for its exceptional geopolitical variety and features several authentic polar rarities that are highly sought after by specialized postal history collectors.
Key Highlights of the Lot:
• The Elusive Severny Polyus 6 (SP-6) Covers: Positioned at the top left, these are the absolute crown jewels of the collection.
Two highly scarce covers sent directly from the drifting ice station "North Pole 6" (circa 1958–1959).
They feature the highly coveted, crisp original circular station cancels and official linear service markings. Covers actually originating from the ice instead of being sent to it are exceptionally rare.
• Rare Transatlantic Connection – Dispatch from the USA: A fascinating international cover mailed from the United States (USA) and addressed to the drifting station via the Moscow sorting channels. It bears authentic U.S. postage, departure cancels, and specialized Arctic transit markings.
• Rare Iron Curtain Cross-Over – Dispatch from Yugoslavia: Another standout piece of immense postal history interest, sent from Yugoslavia to the Soviet scientific polar station. Features original Yugoslavian franking with native postmarks and special routing cachets for the Arctic run.
I dont' combine shippings
