Antique wooden frame dating to 1800–1850, in Luigi Filippo Second Empire style, with external measurements about 70 by 60 cm and internal 66 by 52 cm.
Description from the seller
Splendid antique frame dating to the nineteenth century in the full Louis-Philippe Second Empire style, a piece characterized by a solid solid-wood supporting structure enriched with plaster decorations finely hand modeled. The surface features magnificent original gold leaf gilding with the characteristic red bole underneath that subtly appears at wear points, giving the piece a unique charm. The inner beading shows a refined motif of acanthus leaves, followed by a smooth glossy bead and a prominent fluted band with a matte punched effect. The four corners are enhanced with period-era floral reliefs with central rosettes and festoons of drooping leaves, typical of high-quality manufacturing from the second half of the nineteenth century.
Condition
The item is in generally good condition and structurally sound, with solid wood that preserves its splendid natural patina of time without recent invasive restorations. As expected for the period, there are light and fascinating superficial cracks in the plaster preparation and some small abrasions of the gilded layer along the edges—elements that do not constitute a defect but authenticate the piece’s total authenticity and antiquity. The back displays the typical nineteenth-century workmanship and is complete with a modern sturdy hook to allow immediate and safe wall mounting.
Technical details and dimensions
Manufactory dated between 1850 and 1880 from a prestigious Italian private collection. External maximum dimensions are approximately 71 cm in height by 64 cm in width, with a decorated belt thickness of 14 cm. The usable internal space of the bevel to precisely contain an antique mirror or a canvas measures exactly 66 cm in height by 52 cm in width. A frame with great visual and decorative impact, ideal for antiquarians and demanding collectors.
Shipping and packaging
The utmost care will be dedicated to packing; the item will be professionally and ultra-safely packed to preserve the integrity of the plaster friezes, using bubble wrap with large bubbles, protective corner profiles in expanded polystyrene, and a high-strength corrugated cardboard box.
